The Antarctic Sound is a channel connecting the Bransfield Strait and the Weddell Sea, between Joinville island and the Antarctic Peninsula. It was first navigated in 1902 by a Swedish expedition who also named it.
As we passed peacefully southwest, we had fine views of the volcanic Rosamel or Andersson island to the west and Paulet island to the east, and, of course numerous tabular icebergs like this.
A truly magical prelude to a storm in the Weddell sea and our quest to visit an Emperor Penguin rookery.
